Microsoft Intern Day of Caring
Over my last two summer internships, I participated in Microsoft’s Intern Day of Caring, a long-standing tradition at the company since 1992, when Microsoft employees in the greater-Seattle area provide a day of service for nonprofits in need of extra hands and in the process we get to know our neighborhood organizations a little better. Through this company tradition which is aimed at celebrating volunteerism and promoting corporate social responsibility, I got to work at a blueberry farm to pick fresh, organic berries which were to be donated to food banks in the Seattle area. Our group picked nearly 600 lbs of fresh blueberries to donate at the end of the day. We also got to hear from the executive head of Microsoft’s Xbox division (Phil Spencer) about the importance of volunteerism to conclude the day.
