Android Developer | Social Computing Group

Qatar Computing Research Institute

In Summer 2015, I contributed to the Mobile/Wearable Health Sensing and Interaction Project in the Social Computing Group at QCRI & collaborated with my team to develop the Android implementation of the “ICamel” app. I developed an interactive interface for health-related data, like physical/ physiological activity & food consumption, on a mobile or wearable technology that can be integrated into a social media platform. I then created a virtual pet that initially intends to build an emotional connection with the user through daily interaction prompts and then challenges the user with tasks involving physical exercise that are optimized for the user’s habits. This project also integrated the lifecycle of the pet into a game flow that’s driven by user's physical activity signals and screen interaction which contribute to the game’s respective point-systems. Through this experience I learned a lot about Android sensors, software development in Java & Gamification. Here’s my final technical report about the internship, which describes the details about the application and the challenges encountered during the development process.
